About UsGreat News! Our CD release The Blessed Blend-Journeys Through the Misthas been nominated for 4 Native American Music Awards.
Native Touch is a Native American owned and operated business in the heart of traditional Cherokee territory now known as Murphy,NC. In the old days Murphy, NC was called Tlanisi-yi "The Big Leech Place" because of the stories of a leech the size of a house that lived in the waters where the three rivers converged. Many famous historical figures have come through this land including Hernando De Soto the infamous Spanish Conquistador and James Mooney who lived amongst the Cherokee and wrote much of what we know today of the traditional life of the TsaLaGi people. Murphy is also the birthplace the famous Chief Junaluska who saved Andrew Jacksons life at the Battle of Horse Shoe Bend against the Muscogee Creek only to regret his decision later when President Jackson removed the Cherokee from their ancestral homeland.
Many people know of the history of this land and the people who were once here but what do we know of the daily life of the First Nations People who were here before the Europeans came and the First Nations people today. What do we know of the enduring presence of Native America in the face of assimilation and near extinction?
At Native Touch Trading Post & Cafe we want to share with you the culture, art, music, stories, history, spirituality and food of our people spanning the 4-Directions of Turtle Island. An experience for all of your senses that we pray will leave you enriched with a deeper knowledge of who we were as a people then and now in a family friendly atmosphere suitable for all ages.
